SISTERS OF SWING
About
The band was first formed in late 2010 and since then we have built up a large and varied repertoire of popular foot-tapping swing and big band tunes that seem to be known and loved across the generations.
Band members
There are currently 28 ‘Sisters’ in the band playing the full range of big band instruments.
We are lucky to have a fantastic, talented vocalist Julie Patchouli (JP) who has been popular on the Bristol and south west music scene since the 80s. JP brings her own special sound, style and dynamic personality to the band. She is particularly fond of Ella so many of the tunes in our vocal set pay homage to this great jazz singer.

We meet for rehearsals every other Monday evening at Christchurch Parish Church, Downend, Bristol, BS16 5UF.
Our aims
We aim to:
- Have fun making music
- Make live big band music accessible to all by organising and participating in concerts within our community
- Encourage women to participate in the playing and performance of music by providing an inclusive and supportive environment
- Create a learning environment where band members can develop their skills as individual musicians and as members of a large musical ensemble
